Plenty of Exercise

It's been rainy for the past couple of days with intermittent sunshine here and there. I have been making headway on the flower beds in the front though. I can't do much work with the soil until it dries out a bit. Luckily I did the bulk of weeding before the rains. This is a view from the north.

This is another view from the south.

A couple of the flower pots have some seedlings I have planted and are starting to sprout already. When trying to plant seeds in the beds it seems the squirrels and cats want to dig them up. Planting in the pots seems to reduce that somewhat. The bulk of the plants I have put in the ground are perennials that should come back each year.
The squirrels seem to have their own landscaping ideas. In the top pic there is a Catalpa there that was planted by them. I am now trying to train it to straighten up as it was being guided, it seems, by the dead Japanese Maple that I cut out last week.
I have a Clematis that I cut back this last fall that I am also training. I am hopeful that it will work out the way I plan.

It produces a blue flower in the mid to late summer. It will completely cover the mailbox post. The stone work along the sidewalk shown above was also a project I was working on over the past week. The scallop stones were along the sidewalk which I moved along the driveway.
I hope you are all doing well and I will post again as time permits and I have more items to tell you about. Retirement seems to be more work than I had considered.
