I have just retired after almost 10 years with the state and decided to create this blog as a journal to mark my activities. One of these activities are all my various hobbies. I will be adding items to the Gallery as I complete them.

The week following my last week of work I did have to have surgery which took nearly a month to be up on my feet as normal. The surgery was minor for hernia repair. This is the second time I have gone through that but the first time I was only down for two weeks. This time it was the same surgery on the other side but done in a completely different way. I found that I had a reaction to the antibacterial they covered my lower torso and upper thighs. That was the roughest part because I was itchy all the time. I never found anything that countered the itch for more than a few minutes and I still itched for over a month after the operation.

Most recently I was a manager of a software engineering group for the state of Idaho. Prior to that I was a software engineer myself. Most of that work was done in Visual Basic with a little work in C# for one off applications. I enjoyed the work when I was developing but once I began managing the group. Managing is not as enjoyable as I figured it might be but I managed with an eye on work life balance for all my employees. That is probably the reason I was well regarded by my employees and ultimately the whole agency I worked for.

All that being said I am collecting my state retirement benefits and Social Security. I did put off collecting my Social Security for a while but decided to do all those things you don’t have time to do when you are working. Hopefully there will be some travel involved which I will create posts for.
